CAVEAT EMPTOR
“Travel insurance is designed to cover losses resulting from sudden, unexpected and unforeseeable circumstances.”
I am often asked questions about the fine print and definitions of terms used in a travel insurance policy.
Eligibility Travel insurance rates are based on age and medical conditions. Older travellers can expect to pay higher rates. People with pre-existing medical conditions can also expect to pay more, or have the condition excluded for coverage.
Medical Condition Generally, “any irregularity in your health.”
Stability Required length of time prior to departure – for which a pre-existing medical condition must have been stable (no change in treatment, medication or testing.)
“Caveat Emptor”
If you are 65 or over and the insurance plan you wish to purchase does not require questions to determine your eligibility, don’t count on it to pay a claim.
Just because your attending physician or specialist declares you are “fit to travel”, does not mean you will qualify for travel insurance benefits.
